Dear members of D-scribes mailing list,

Submission deadline for the second International Workshop on Computational
Paleography (IWCP2) has been extended to May 8th 2023 anywhere on earth
(hard deadline).

Please also note that the workshop will be held on August 24 (and not 25 as
initially announced).

You can find the call for papers below and all the details on the IWCP 2023
<https://www.csmc.uni-hamburg.de/iwcp2023.html> website,

All the best

Call for Papers
The second International Workshop on Computational Paleography (IWCP2) will
take place in San José on August 24th in conjunction with the 17th Int.
Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR).

It aims at reflecting state of the art research on historical handwriting
analysis. It is planned for half a day with a keynote talk, oral
presentations, and lively discussions.

The IWCP 2023 <https://www.csmc.uni-hamburg.de/iwcp2023.html> welcomes the
submission of original, previously unpublished work that is relevant to its
topics of interest:

· Handwriting style analysis (definition and identification of script
types)

· Recognition, detection, classification and comparison of
handwriting elements (such as letters, words, and symbols)

· Writer identification and retrieval

· Joins identification among manuscript fragments

· Manuscript clustering according to measurement of key features in
scripts and layout

· Recovery of illegible/lost writing (palimpsest, faded/damaged
writing)

· Material analysis of inks, colourants, binders and writing supports

· Non-invasive, on-site investigations of written artefacts

· Reconstruction of writing processes

· Provenance studies

· Dating terminus post quem

· Paleographic applications of handwriting modelling

· Quantitative methods applied to Paleography

· Software applications supporting paleographical research

· Virtual Research Environments, Virtual Libraries and annotated
corpora supporting paleographical research (e.g. IIIF-based)

· Historical research questions based on challenging handwritten
corpora requiring computational support

Submitted papers will be peer-reviewed and accepted submissions will be
presented in the workshop and published with ICDAR proceedings in the
Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series.

Papers from on-going projects presenting preliminary, mid-term or pilot data
are welcome. New projects based on challenging or sensitive (unpublished)
corpora can submit an abstract that may, upon discussion, be published or
integrated in the Workshop Final Report.

Participants can choose between two formats:

· A full-paper in the range of 8 – 15 pages (not including
references) in Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) format and
a short presentation for on-going projects presenting datasets, final or
preliminary results as well as innovative methodologies and tools;

· An abstract (1 page) and a short presentation for new projects
based on challenging material and research questions requiring
interdisciplinary collaborations. Please note that this kind of submission
will not allow the publication of a paper in the proceedings.

Deadline is May 8th 2023 anywhere on earth (hard deadline).

See more on the submission procedure at
https://www.csmc.uni-hamburg.de/iwcp2023/submission.html

For work on historical documents in general that are not focusing on
handwriting or paleography, we recommend you have a look at HIP23
<https://blog.sbb.berlin/hip2023/> .

Note that it will be an in person event (with a possibility to be recorded
for post-conference diffusion).

All questions about submissions should be emailed to Dr. Isabelle
Marthot-Santaniello (i.marthot-santaniello at unibas.ch
