Dear all,

 

The Department of Ancient Civilizations in the University of Basel invites
applications for the Digital Humanities project "Reuniting fragments,
identifying scribes and characterizing scripts: the Digital paleography of
Greek and Coptic papyri (D-scribes)" for a one-year position for a technical
lead as of April 15, 2021.

Fully integrated to the team, the new member will have the opportunity to
contribute to the future peer-review articles to be submitted in
international conferences. D-scribes is a SNSF-funded research project led
by Dr. Isabelle-Marthot-Santaniello, please see d-scribes.org.

 

Assignments

Implementing state-of-the-art methods of layout and script analysis in order
to apply them to ancient papyri written in Greek and Coptic. Proper software
tools are to be developed with easy-to-use GUIs for the implemented methods.

 

Profile

PhD-holders in Document Analysis and Recognition or related fields of
Computer Vision will be preferred. Applicants with Master and/or able to
attest a strong experience and motivation in the topic will be considered.
The applicant must testify a background in Computer Vision, and specifically
in Document Analysis and Recognition. In addition, sufficient experience in
software development is required.
